Pattern at Erich Mcvey Workshop

Weddings and patterns have a lot in common – both are creatively put together with an acute attention for detail. Photographer Erich McVey recently hosted a workshop at Cuffey’s Cove Ranch in Elk, California, with the theme of "Pattern." It explored the many ways a reoccurring design or even tradition can create a harmonious wedding scene. From the dress to the florals, there was no detail left untouched. From the outset, even the ferns at Cuffey’s Cove Ranch exhibited the essence of the shoot.

The delicate ivory color brought a vintage appeal to the arrangement that paired so well with the bride’s gown.

The bride wore a long-sleeve lace gown with a stunningly intricate pattern down the length of the dress.

The groom was handsome in a gray J. Crew suit that elevated the brightness of the couple’s appearance in nature.

The natural location also inspired other areas of the shoot. The naked cake was simply stunning with a fig garnish on the side, as well as the various spices and flowers captured on camera.

The tablescape included a centerpiece crafted with similar flowers from the bride’s bouquet.

There may be many areas where a pattern is ideal for a wedding: the lace, the fabric, the florals. But in contrast, no one wedding is exactly like another - an exclusive experience to the couple for whom it honors.
